Combat Styles represent particular and practiced skill with a certain way of fighting. they are a way for you to customize how you fight, focusing on offence, defense, speed or something else. Most Combat Styles only give bonuses when using certain types of weapons.
Combat Styles apply persistent, passive benefits (and maybe penalties). Any Combat Styles you are using apply even when you are not in combat. After a Long Rest, you may choose to add, change, or remove the Combat Styles you are using, but may not do so again until after another Long Rest.
You gain Combat Styles through spending Background Points, increasing your MPL (see MPL), or acquiring a Feat or theme that grants you one.
In Tier 1, you can only make use of one Combat Style at a time. In Tier 2, you can make use of two Combat Styles at one time, in Tier 3, you can use three, and in Tier 4, you can use 4. (see Tier)
You may voluntarily forget a Combat Style and gain a different one over the course of days of practice.
General Styles
Safety First
You have +1 Evasion.
When wielding a melee weapon, it has -1 AV. When wielding a ranged weapon, it has -1 Accuracy.
Speedy
You gain +1 Agility.
You have +2 Exposing and -1 Evasion.
Defensive Focus
You have +1 Evasion.
You have -1 Agility and +1 Exposing.
Ranged Weapon Styles
Overdraw
You count your Draw Weight as 1 level higher (even if it’s above what weapon’s limit would normally be).
When wielding a Draw Weight weapon, it has -1 Accuracy.
Focused Shots
When you wield a ranged weapon, it has +1 Precision.
You have -1 Evasion.
Consistent Attack
When wielding a Ranged weapon, it gains +1 Accuracy.
When wielding a Ranged weapon, it gains +2 Exposing.
Melee Weapon Styles
Slow and Steady
When wielding a melee weapon, it has +1 AV and -1 Exposing.
You have -2 Agility.
Reckless
Your MASAB is increased by 1.
You have -1 Evasion and -1 AR.
Forceful
Your MASDB is increased by 1.
Your MASAB is decreased by 1.
Opportunistic
When making a melee attack against an Exposed creature, you deal an additional 1d4 damage.
Your MASDB is reduced by 1.
Reach0 Styles
Reflexive Defense
When wielding a Reach0 weapon, it gains +1 Evasion.
You have -1 Ranged Evasion.
Savage Punishing
When making a melee attack with a Reach0 weapon against an Exposed creature, the weapon gains +3 Precision.
When wielding a Reach0 weapon, it has -1 AV.
Dagger Styles
Powerful Stabs
When wielding a dagger-like weapon which without this Combat Style would have Precision, it deals an additional 1d4 damage.
When wielding a dagger-like weapon, it has -2 Precision and +1 Exposing.
Precise Dagger
When you score a Critical hit with a dagger-like weapon, you deal an additional 1d10 damage.
When wielding a dagger-like weapon, it has -1 AV.
Reach 1 Styles
Adapth Technique
When wielding a Reach1 weapon, you may treat it as having the Versatile property.
When wielding a Reach1 weapon, it has -1 AV.
The Perfect Distance
When making a melee attack with a Reach 1 Weapon against a creature at your maximum Reach, you have +2 AV.
When you are hit by an attack from a creature closer than your maximum Reach, you take an additional 1d6 damage. You have -2 Ranged Evasion.
Two-Handed Styles
Spinning Momentum
When wielding a Two-Handed weapon, it gains +2 AV.
When wielding a Two-Handed weapon, it has -2 Evasion and +1 Exposing.
Unbalancing Power
When wielding a Two-Handed weapon, it deals an additional 2 damage.
When wielding a Two-Handed weapon, it has -1 Evasion. Your max Stamina is reduced by 2.
Reach 2 or More Styles
Stand your Ground
When wielding a polearm (at least Reach2), it has +1 AV and +1 Evasion.
You have -2 Agility and +1 Exposing.
Swift Jabs
When you are wielding a polearm (at least Reach 2) which is not Heavy, it has +1 Evasion and -2 Exposing.
When you are wielding a polearm (at least Reach 2) which is not Heavy, it has -1 AV.
Accurate Jabs
When you are wielding a polearm (at least Reach2), it has +1 AV.
You have -1 Agility.
Defensive Polearm
When you are wielding a polearm (at least Reach 2), it has +2 Evasion.
When making an attack with a polearm-like weapon, it deals 1 less damage. Your max Stamina is reduced by 1.
Dual-Wielding Styles
Rain of Attacks
When wielding two Light, Reach0 weapons, one in each hand, you may make melee attacks with those weapons using only 2 Energy.
You have -3 AV and -2 AR and -1 Evasion.
Quick Footwork
When wielding two Light, Reach0 weapons, one in each hand, you gain +1 Agility and +1 Evasion.
When wielding two Light, Reach0 weapons, they have -1 AV.
Savage Dual-Wielding
When wielding a Light, Reach0 weapon in both hands, they have +1 AV and +1 Precision.
When wielding a Light, Reach0 weapon, it has -1 Evasion.
Feign Past the Guard
When wielding two Light weapons, you have +5 Evasion when defending against Swift attacks.
You have -1 Evasion or -1 AV.
Dual Attacks
When you are wielding two weapons, one in each hand, you gain +1 AV and -1 Exposing.
You have -1 Evasion and -1 AR.
Light Weapon Styles
Swift Reflexes
When wielding a Light weapon, it has +1 Evasion.
Fineness Attacks
When wielding a Light weapon, it has +2 AV.
Your MASDB is reduced by 1.
Light Steps
When the only weapons or shields you are wielding are Light, you gain +2 Stamina.
Heavy Weapon Styles
Brute Strength
When wielding a Heavy weapon, it deals an additional 2 damage.
You have -4 max Stamina.
Controlled Swing
When wielding a Heavy weapon, it has +2 Evasion.
When wielding a Heavy weapon, it has -1 AV.
Over-Swing
When wielding a Heavy weapon, it has +2 AV.
When wielding a Heavy weapon, it has -1 Evasion and +2 Exposing.
Brutal Weapon Styles
Brutal Swings
When wielding a weapon with Brutal, you gain an additional +2 Brutal.
You have -1 Evasion and -1 Ranged Evasion (for a total of -2 to your Ranged Evasion).
Versatile Weapon Styles
Versatile Style
When wielding a Versatile weapon which can be wielded both one-handed and two-handed, with one hand, it has +1 AV.
When wielding a Versatile weapon which can be wielded both one-handed and two-handed, with both hands, it has +2 Evasion.
Your Stamina is reduced by 1.
Versatile Disarming
When wielding a Versatile weapon, it has the Disarm property.
When wielding a Versatile weapon, it has +1 Exposing.
Versatility
When wielding a Versatile weapon, it has +1 Precision and +1 Brutal.
When wielding a Versatile weapon, it has -1 AV.
Axe Styles
Accurate Axe
WWhen wielding an axe-like weapon which would have Brutal without this Combat Style, it has +2 AV.
When wielding an axe-like weapon, it has -1 Brutal. You have -1 Stamina.
Savage Axe
When wielding an axe-like weapon, it deals an additional 2 damage.
When wielding an axe-like weapon, it has -1 AV and -1 Evasion.
Blunt Weapon Styles
Taskmaster
When wielding a blunt weapon, it has +1 AV and when it deals damage, you may make it Non-Lethal damage.
When wielding a blunt weapon, it has +2 Exposing.
Club Styles
Seal Clubbing
When wielding a club-like weapon, it has +1 Brutal.
When wielding a club-like weapon, it has +2 Exposing.
Quick Clubbing
When wielding a one-handed, club-like weapon, you have +1 Agility and when it deals damage, you may make it Non-Lethal damage.
Your MASDB is reduced by 1.
Sword Styles
Half-Swording
When wielding a two-handed, Reach1, sword-like weapon, you do not have Disadvantage on attacks because the target is closer than your maximum Reach.
Flail Styles
Angled Swings
When wielding a flail-like weapon, it has +2 AV.
Your MASDB is reduced by 1. You have -2 Ranged Evasion.
Punishing Rage
When wielding a Flail-like weapon that without this Combat Style would have Trip and Disarm, it deals an additional 1d4 damage against Exposed creatures.
When wielding a Flail-like weapon, it loses the Trip and Disarm properties.
Devastating Flailing
When making a melee attack with a Flail-like weapon with Devastate, when you roll a natural 19 or 20 on a Combat roll, you may Break the creature’s armor.
You have -2 Ranged Evasion.
Whip Styles
Savage Barbs
When wielding a whip-like weapon, it deals an additional 1d4 damage.
When wielding a whip-like weapon, it has -1 AV and +2 Exposing.
Recoiling Strike
When wielding a whip-like weapon, it has +1 AV and you have +1 Agility.
When wielding a whip-like weapon, you have -2 AR and -1 Evasion.
Incredible Accuracy
When you make an attack with a whip-like weapon against an Exposed creature, it has +5 AV.
You have -2 AR and your Stamina is reduced by 1.
Quarterstaff Styles
Easy Grip Shifting
When wielding a quarterstaff, it has +1 AV and +1 Evasion.
You deal 1 less damage.
Spinning Defense
When wielding a quarterstaff, you can use its Evasion bonus to help defend against attacks coming from behind you (where you are not facing).
You have -3 AR.
Exploit Vulnerabilities
When you attack an Unguarded creature with a quarterstaff, you have Advantage on your Combat roll.
When wielding a quarterstaff, it has -1 AV.
Exacting Strikes
When you attack an Exposed creature with a quarterstaff, you deal an additional 1d6 damage.
You have -1 Evasion and -1 AR.
Rope Dart Styles
Accurate Stance
When you are wielding a rope dart, it has +2 AV.
When you are wielding a rope dart, it has -1 Evasion and -2 AR.
Precise Stance
When you are wielding a rope dart, it has +2 Precision.
When you are wielding a rope dart, it has -1 AV and -2 AR.
Quick Dart
When wielding a Rope Dart, you may make melee attacks with it using only 2 Energy. However, when you do this, you have Disadvantage on your Combat roll.
When wielding a Rope Dart, you have -1 Evasion and -5 AR.
Shield Styles
Shield Reliance
When wielding a shield in one hand and a weapon in the other, the shield gains +2 Evasion. When wielding a shield, it gains +2 Hardness.
All weapons you wield have -1 Evasion and -1 AV.
Battle Awareness
When wielding a shield, it has +1 Evasion. You have +3 Awareness.
You have -1 AR and -1 Stamina.
Tactful Defense
When wielding a shield, you have +2 Evasion when you are not Exposed.
You have -1 Agility.
Uncanny Awareness
When wielding a shield, you may apply its Evasion bonus to attacks from behind (where you are not facing).
Your MASAB is reduced by 1.
Look Ahead
When wielding a shield, it has +2 Ranged Evasion.
Perfect Cover
When wielding a Heavy shield, it has +1 Evasion and +1 Hardness.
Light Defense
When wielding a Light shield, you gain +1 Agility.
You have -1 AR.
Damage Resistance
When wielding a shield which isn’t Light, you have +1 AR.
You have -1 AV or -1 Evasion. You have -1 Stamina.
